Where to Turn?

Where to Turn? – Blog Post #5

Christmas and New Year can be a difficult time for lots of reasons, and it’s not unusual for people to feel that they have reached a tipping point with their mental health. It can also be when the things that keep us feeling steady at other times of the year – our daily routines, the social interaction from being at work, college or school, the activities we do every week – aren’t happening.

If you feel like things are getting on top of you, help is out there. You are not alone.

If you are in crisis, call 111 and select the mental health option. You will be put through to a mental health specialist who can talk to you about what you are experiencing and find you the support and help you need.

There are also lots of national and local helplines, available via text, webchat and telephone. Sometimes just talking to someone can make all the difference. Take a look here.

Your local medical centre or GP surgery will be closed on public holidays, but you can make an appointment as soon as they are open to see a doctor. Find your local GP here.

If you don’t want to see your GP, there are lots of services you can self-refer to, including talking therapies. Waiting lists are probably shorter than you think and most organisations and services will get back to you within a few days to let you know what to expect. Find information here.
